How To Stop Hair Loss In Men? Is There A Way?

Before we look at the topic of how to stop hair loss in men, and how most guys dealing with balding actually end up, let’s take a quick look at what causes hair loss.

Causes Of Hair Loss

Below are some of the reasons why men lose their hair!

#1: Family History

This one is most definitely the most common cause of hair loss amongst all of us mortals!

It pretty much always occurs gradually, and you can predict it from early on.

Another word for heredity hair loss is male pattern baldness.

The most common signs to look for are a receding hairline, thinning hair on the top of your head or at the front.

Chances are your hair loss is down to genes (thanks mom & dad!).

Yes it can suck, but the good news is you can see the hair loss coming your way before anyone else even notices it.

And this is a good thing, as I will explain later on in this article!

#2: Alopecia Areata

This a disease that affects quite a lot of people, both men and women.

Basically your body’s immune system starts attacking your hair follicles, and they begin to fall out.

This does not just happen on the scalp, but can happen all over the body.

The hair loss and baldness is quite patchy, and not gradual and consistent as with male pattern baldness.

#3: Medications

If you receive treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy, then hair loss will occur.

There has also been talk of a number of other dugs and medicines causing hair loss, but these aren’t as common.

#4: Stress

Suffering with a lot of stress can cause your hair to fall out.

Luckily, this is usually temporary!

#5: Age

The older you get, the more likely hair loss is going to come your way!

This is quite normal, and expected amongst most men.

#6: Certain Hair Care Products

Adding a lot of chemicals to your hair can damage the roots and cause hair loss.

Things such as hair colorant, or hair care products which contain a lot of harmful chemicals could aide hair loss.

#7: Pulling Your Hair

Many people do this without even knowing that they are doing it.

Whilst this hair loss is normally small and temporary, it is still something which could lead to hair falling out.

Balding Statistics – What Percentage Of Men Actually Go Bald

If you are an adult man, what are the chances that you will, in fact, go bald one day?

According to the American Hair Loss Association, the recent statistics are as follows:

  • Approximately 25 percent of men who have hereditary male pattern baldness start losing their hair before the age of 21.
  • By the age of 35, approximately 66 percent of men will have experienced some degree of hair loss.
  • By the age of 50, approximately 85 percent of men will have significantly thinner hair.

To make these statistics easier to understand, if there were 10 men in a room, more than 8 of them would be suffering hair loss and balding by the age of 50 years.

To put it bluntly, these aren’t great odds at all.

You can either look at these odds and start feeling very sorry for yourself or you should realise that you are not alone in this boat, and this happens to a lot more men than you can think or know of.

Right, now that we know a few more basic things about hair loss in men, let’s talk about what this post is actually focussed on – preventing hair loss.

So Can You Stop Hair Loss? If Yes, How?

I immediately went back on Google this morning to see exactly what most websites say when I searched about stopping hair loss.

The first few websites that pop up are ones such as Healthline and Times of India.

They go on to give a bunch of ways in which you could try and stop your hair from continuing to fall out.

Below are a few things they mention.

Taking prescription or OTC drugs such as rogaine or propecia.

Getting hair transplants.

Making certain lifestyle changes such as not smoking, stressing less, eating a more balanced diet etc.

Recommending not washing your hair that often, not brushing wet hair or even brushing too aggressively.

Applying certain oils to your hair and scalp.

Avoid too much heat or dryness.

Keep healthy.

Style your hair carefully.

Rub garlic juice, onion juice or ginger juice on your scalp.

Keep yourself hydrated.

And so the list goes on!

How To Stop Hair Loss In Men

To be fair, I remember actually trying a lot of these tips and tricks on how to stop hair loss.

I remember sitting at home with a head full of olive oil, feeling like a complete, oily mess!

But do any of these pieces of advice actually work?

It’s a hard one to answer, as everyone is different.

I think it all comes down to the cause of your hair loss.

If you are going bald because of male pattern baldness or anything genetic, then unfortunately nothing will actually help in preventing or stopping hair loss.

I tried everything, and nothing ever really worked. I even bought super expensive shampoo that supposedly stops hair loss.

You could definitely try all of the above, except maybe not transplants. Those are expensive as hell, and require a lifetime of upkeep.

How To Stop Hair Loss In Men

But if you have exhausted every avenue to try and stop you from going bald and nothing has worked, then stress not please.

Because we here at The Bald Brothers are actually on a mission to show guys that by shaving their heads completely, they get rid of A LOT of the stress and misery surrounding hair loss.

What To Do If You Are Going Bald?

The timeline in pretty much most guys’ hair loss is quite similar.

You start to notice a bit of thinning hair in your late teens or early 20s.

Then it’s a few years of trying to play clever with hairstyles, hats and any other way to make sure no one notices your balding.

Thereafter, it becomes quite hard to hide it.

You start accepting the fact that hair loss is inevitable, and you grab the clippers and shave your head to a number 4, then a number 2 and then a number 0.

And finally, after years of it being a constant issue in your life, you grab the shaving cream and razor and let go.

This process can be made a lot easier.

We both took the scenic route, and waited years and years until finally shaving our heads.

Knowing what we know now, we really wish we did it sooner.

Ask every single guy who shaves his head, and he will tell you the same thing.

And no one regrets shaving their heads.

So what do we say when guys ask us our opinion on what to do when going bald?

We normally recommend guys to seriously consider shaving their heads.

It really is the most freeing feeling you can have.

I know it isn’t easy at all. But it should be considered seriously!

5 Honest Reasons To Shave Your Head

Need a bit more convincing as to why you should shave your head whilst experiencing hair loss?

Below are 5 of the best reasons.

#1: It’s Over

It’s all over.

It’s done.

No one can say anything anymore, and you cannot worry about losing your hair again.

And you know why?

Because it’s all gone!

This is probably the biggest reason every balding guy should shave their heads. You literally take the problem and get rid of it.

#2: You Can Re Brand Yourself Quicker

New look, new you!

When you decide to take the plunge and shave your head, you immediately sport a new look.

This isn’t a bad thing.

Actually, it can be a good thing.

Within weeks, friends and family members will completely forget that you even used to have hair, and your new look will be the norm!

Change is a good thing, so embrace it 100%.

#3: The Longer You Wait, The Harder It Gets

Trust me, this is so true.

The more you focus and obsess about how you would look without hair, or if it might just grow back eventually, the more damage it does to your mind!

With the waiting, you start to talk yourself out of shaving your head.

I did this for years, and ended up shaving my head anyways.

Only thing is I went the long, scenic route which was quite difficult!

Knowing what I know now, I wish I had shaved it off sooner.

#4: People Won’t Comment On Your Balding Again

When you decide to get rid of your balding hair 100%, then friends and family members won’t comment on the fact that you are showing signs of balding ever again.

Why?

Because you aren’t balding anymore!

You are now a guy who has embraced his baldness and shaved it all off completely.

For many guys, this is huge.

I know a lot of guys take all the comments personally, and it eats them away slowly.

#5: Money & Time Saved

Think about all the time you spend thinking, worrying and stressing about your hair loss.

This can really drain you emotionally.

If you have been asking yourself the question of “should I shave my head?” on a regular basis, then taking the plunge will free up a lot of mental space.

On top of the time saved, you can also stop spending money on hair regrowth products!

We know there are a ton of shampoos and other products out there that claim to help your hair grow back.

Unfortunately, this is rarely the case.

Conclusion

One can spend hours online trying to learn how to stop hair loss, and even how to re grow the hair that has already fallen out.

It can lead to hours and hours of constant stress and anxiety.

And you are left with a lot of empty hope, despair and just a shitty feeling!

Our goal here at The Bald Brothers is to show every balding guy that there is a way out of this hole.

If we can convince all balding dudes to shave their heads and show them that it’s not the end of the world, then we have done our job.

Shave it off, and embrace the new you!

Cheers,
Richard
