8 Basic Weight Loss Tips For Men That Are Realistic

We live in a world where everyone’s trying to get you to buy into their latest new weight loss hack or program. But the truth is, these are almost never sustainable in the long term. That’s why I have put together some really basic weight loss tips for men, perfect for all us normal guys.

Weight Loss Tips For Men

These days the internet is filled with advice on losing weight.

Every person has found a new craze which they claim will change your life.

And some might actually work.

But the issue I have with a lot of these so called ‘weight loss tips’ is that they really aren’t that sustainable in the long term.

You won’t really be able to implement them into your normal, daily life.

I mean we are all normal men afterall.

We still want to be able to have a pint or two every now and then.

We want to be able to eat some sweet food, and maybe the odd bit of junk food here and there.

So to say you need to completely cut out carbs, give up meat, or go on a juice fast is just not all that realistic.

You get what I’m saying?

I often see many friends and family members who are stuck in really unhealthy habits.

They are all pretty much out of shape, overweight and just seem to have given up on their physical appearance.

We all get one life, so we really should try and keep our physical side of things as healthy as possible.

No matter how far down the road of being out of shape you are, the good news is that there is still hope.

Stop making excuses and start taking action.

It’s funny.

I have a few out of shape friends that are a bit older, and they always blame their age for them being overweight. Yet I never hear my older, in shape friends ever complain.

So whatever your situation, the best time to make a change is now. ]

Basic & Realistic Weight Loss Tips

Below I have put together a few basic and achievable tips to lose weight.

I use these tips every single day, so I can back them up 100%.

They might seem a bit basic to you, but I know for a fact there are many men out there that don’t apply any of these tips into their daily lives.

Right, let’s get to a few tips!

Here are my favorite weight loss tips which I hope you will implement into your life.

#1: Drink Water Right After Waking Up

weight loss tips for men

Be honest, what’s the first thing you do in the morning when waking up?

And what’s the first thing you consume?

Chances are you probably head to the bathroom, then make yourself a coffee.

Before doing either of these things, drink a glass or two of water right away after waking up.

There are numerous reasons why this is good for you.

For starters, your body is naturally dehydrated as you haven’t taken in any liquids for a good 8 or so hours. So it needs liquid. It also helps your bowel movements.

Secondly, drinking water first thing in the morning will give a kickstart to your metabolism. It’s a good idea to have your metabolism at its prime when starting off the day.

And lastly, water will curb any cravings for food you have first thing in the morning.

So by drinking sufficient amounts of water when waking up, your body will be alert and ready to tackle the day.

#2: Start An Exercise Routine

Starting an exercise routine, and sticking to it, isn’t as difficult as many guys think.

One of the most common things that happen amongst men when they reach their adult lives is that they stop taking proper care of their bodies.

Most guys seem to forget about health and fitness after their schooling days are over.

No more forced sports or physical education classes, so that means no more burning off any excess fat!

If you think you have let go yourself a little bit, then it’s important to develop an exercise routine right now.

You don’t need much time each day to start getting fit.

And you need exactly $0 too.

So what’s your excuse then?

Not only will developing an exercise routine be good for your physical health and help you lose weight, but it’ll be good for your mental health, your overall happiness and it will improve your quality of life.

If you want to know more about starting a fitness routine, then check out this post I wrote about this topic.

#3: Try Push Back Breakfast

Do you remember growing up as a child and always hearing everyone saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?

It was something that was ingrained into all of us.

Now that might be true for a small child who is growing fast, but it really isn’t for any adults.

The whole ‘3 big meals a day’ thing is a good reason why many people struggle to shed a few pounds.

I always used to wake up and eat my first meal within an hour, and would eat all day until I sleep.

Then I started practicing something called intermittent fasting, and it changed my life.

For those of you who don’t know what it is, intermittent fasting is basically where you allow yourself to only eat during a certain period everyday, and spend the rest of the time fasting.

The easiest way to slowly implement this into your daily life is to start pushing back on breakfast.

So instead of eating breakfast at 8am everyday, push it back to 9am this week. Then 10am next week. Until you eventually don’t even need to eat breakfast.

And bam! You now too are pretty much practicing intermittent fasting.

There are many benefits that come from giving your body a well deserved break from consuming foods.

So make sure to read this post and find out what they are.

#4: Walk More

Depending on where you live, you’ll either have a massive walking culture or you won’t.

Having spent the past few years living all over Europe, I have been lucky to be living in a culture where everyone walks everywhere.

I remember living in Paris and always wondering how the hell so many people stayed so skinny, yet they just ate carbs all day.

Now it could be genes, quality of carbs etc, but the fact that every person walks so much definitely plays a vital role.

If you live somewhere that requires you to always drive to and from work, then try and make an effort to walk whenever possible.

Be it to the shops before work, or just around a few blocks every evening.

It may not seem like much, but it can definitely help you lose weight.

#5: Sit Less; Move More

If you are an office worker or are required to remain seated for much of the day, then this tip is aimed at you!

Staying in a seated position all day isn’t good for you.

So try and get up and move around as much as possible. Keep the blood flowing and the body moving!

Even getting one of those sit stand desks can help.

#6: Take Daily Cold Showers

About a month ago I started taking ice cold showers every morning right after I wake up.

Now I know it’s a real difficult task for most guys, but you can ease into it quite nicely.

And the benefits have been really good!

There are many benefits that come from taking daily cold showers, and one of those is that it can assist with weight loss.

Scientific research has shown that cold showers and exposure to cold weather in general increase your metabolism as well as generate brown fat.

Brown fat is a type of fat tissue that generates energy by burning calories which makes taking cold showers or cold water therapy a good tool for people who want to lose weight.

If cold showers is something that really interests you, then make sure to check out this post.

#7: Cut Back On Booze

Yes, I know.

It can be tough!

Especially for all of you who work hard during the week and feel like you deserve a few cold ones come Friday.

But by cutting back just a little on alcohol, you can drop a few pounds really quickly.

I’m not saying stop drinking.

But give your body a few days a week completely alcohol free, and try limit your intake when you do drink.

If you want to, then try doing a one month no alcohol challenge!

#8: Train All Year Round

Don’t be one of those guys who starts training one month before summer.

Training doesn’t have a season.

So make sure you are well into your workout routine 52 weeks a year.

By doing this you never have to scramble and try get that summer body.

Even if you are away on vacation with your friends or family, try sticking to your workout schedule as much as possible.

Consistency is key!

Final Thoughts

Once you get your mind on board that you want to live a healthier life, the rest will follow.

The greatest thing about living a healthy life is that once you get to a certain level, you never want to go back.

So start working out and eating right, change a few of your everyday habits, and slowly your entire life will start being better.

Cheers,
Richard
